Look ma, no fin
Jeroen | June 2, 2011SUP attaining with headwind and no fin is pretty tiring I can tell you. I had the idea to remove the big middle fin today, to test how that would make a difference. I thought I had it figured out to paddle in a straight line without using a J stroke, but if the fin is missing, it’s either using the J stroke (which takes time each stroke), or moving forward a bit diagonally (which wastes energy).
Obviously there are some advantages as well:
- It’s a lot easier to make turns.
- The fin doesn’t get caught on rocks in shallow water.
- It’s a lot easier to paddle backwards
